Down Payment Assistance for First-Time Homebuyers
Eligible applicants may receive grant assistance toward the purchase of a home within Charleston city limits.

Offered in partnership with the City of Charleston.
Who Is Eligible?
Applicants must meet all four requirements:

Be a first-time homebuyer
You must not have owned a home within the past three years.

Purchase a home within Charleston city limits
Confirm that the property is located within the city limits before applying.

Meet the household income requirement
Your household income must be at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI).

Complete the First-Time Homebuyers Program
You must complete the Charleston Area Urban League’s First-Time Homebuyers Program.

Participants who successfully complete the workshop receive a HUD Homebuyer Education Certificate, which may be required to qualify for certain down payment assistance programs, affordable mortgage products, and other homeownership opportunities.
