Housing

The Center for Housing provides assistance to families in need of better housing while combating housing inequities for low-to-moderate income households. Our comprehensive housing counseling services equip families with the knowledge and support necessary to address their housing needs, improve their financial situation and avoid the crisis of mortgage foreclosure. Our clients gain the financial literacy and knowledge necessary to obtain and maintain safe, clean, stable and affordable housing. Program benefits include:

  • predator lending prevention

  • landlord/tenant mediation

  • home buying resources

  • loan application assistance

Fair Housing

The only locally HUD-Certified Fair Housing counseling agency, the CTUL works in collaboration with the City of Charleston, North Charleston and Charleston County to address fair issues such as:

 

  • housing infractions

  • unequal treatment by landlords

  • lack of access to the financial mainstream by minorities and other unprotected classes of people

First-Time Home Buyers Program

 

The First-Time Home Buyers Program is designed to educate potential first-time home buyers and to produce successful homeowners. This program also provides debt reduction counseling, financial literacy workshops and grant/loan application assistance.

 

Home Buyer Workshops are held once a month on Saturdays at the Charleston County Library (68 Calhoun Street) from 9:30 AM-5:00 PM. CLICK  HERE for a calendar of upcoming workshops.

Homeless Prevention Program

 

Our Homeless Prevention Program provides services for individuals and families in emergency or crisis. Eligibility is dependent on a set criteria including: household income, employment status and the likelihood of achieving future independence.

 

Applications may be submitted on TUESDAYS & WEDNESDAYS from 10:30 AM-12:30 PM. Please call (843) 769-8173 for more information about documentation needed to apply for assistance.
